Powerblanket’s 55-gallon drum heaters provide a range of heating solutions for warming and storing temperature-sensitive materials. Our patented design eliminates hot and cold spots by applying uniform full-coverage heat across the entire surface of the container, allowing users to keep their materials at the proper viscosity while remaining at specified thermal levels. Each drum heater can be equipped with either an adjustable or a fixed thermostat. Our 55-gallon drum heater comes in two voltages: 120 volts and 240 volts. Choose between three different thermal rating classes:
  • Powerblanket Lite - designed for light residential and industrial applications, low power density
  • Powerblanket - designed for any definitive heating applications, surrounded by a rugged vinyl shell, safe to use in temperatures as low as -20 F
  • Powerblanket Xtreme - designed for harsh climates, safe to use in temperatures as low as -40 F
All of our 55-gallon drum heaters come as an insulated full-wrap design with cinch straps to secure a tight fit. They’re also water-resistant and can be used on poly and steel drums. All Powerblanket products are ETL certified to UL, CSA, and CE safety standards.
  • Adjustable from ambient to 145 ºF on PRO models
  • Hassle free, preset internal 100 °F temperature on RR Rapid Ramp models
  • Water resistant and safe for both steel & poly drums
  • Insulated full-wrap design and cinch straps to secure tight fit
  • Pro model has three individual heat zones and automatically adjusts to varying fluid levels
  • Safe for outdoor use
  • All models are certified by ETL to UL & CSA safety standards

  1. It does what it is supposed to, would definitely buy again! We have used this for about three months on a lube truck with an inverter and it is holding up fine. Would definitely buy again!
  2. You offer a great product with fast shipping You offer a great product with fast shipping. Your product is reliable and does exactly what it says. However, all of this comes at a price. A high price, but a price that must be paid to achieve the results your product outputs.
  3. Works good for honey This pro model drum heating blanket works good, I use it for my honey barrels, it takes 2-3 days to take honey from hard to liquid.
  4. These drum heating blankets work great! These drum heating blankets work great! These 240-volt drum heating blankets work great for my application. I will buy a few more as soon as budget allows. Be aware that thermostat wire must be placed so that it can't fall down onto the cold floor, else the drums can overheat if the thermostat thinks the drum surface is cold. Make sure to sandwich the temperature probe on the bottom 1/3 rd of your 55-gallon drum between the drum heating blanket and the drum itself to get the most accurate temperature reading. All in all, these drum heating blankets work great!
  5. Great for my operation This is great for my small operation. Especially during the cold season when you pull in an ingredient and it's completely solid. We just put this on the night before and when we come in we have a liquid product ready to use. Very easy to wrap and remove
  6. So far so good! I have a small honey operation in Washington and needed a better heating solution to warm my honey for bottling purposes. I have used the old silicone band heaters for years with little success and I've heard a lot about Powerblanket heaters from other beekeepers in Washington who were using them and raved about them so had to give them a try. I purchased this drum heating blanket to help with my honey extraction & bottling and have to say, so far so good.
  7. These drum blankets work great! These drum blankets work great! I will buy two more as soon as budget allows. Be aware that thermostat wire must be placed so that it can't fall down onto the cold floor, else the drums can overheat if the thermostat thinks the drum surface is cold.

  9. Five stars Five Stars. Great blanket and even better customer service, we use this to maintain drums of polymer and works fantastic.
  10. Works great for heating our spray foam tanks! Works great for heating our spray foam tanks! The power blanket heater is wonderful. It heats the foam tanks we use up to 90 degrees in about 2hours. Save cost like no other. Glad we found this company that sells it. Would recommend it to anyone who needs to heat a tank. Thanks again!
  11. Fantastic quality, extremely reliable. Fantastic quality, extremely reliable. Fantastic quality drum heater that is easy to set up and provides quite the punch once it gets warmed up providing exceptional heat to the entire drum. The thermostatic controls are also vital especially if you are trying to maintain a specific temp on sensitive chemicals, in which case that cannot be compromised in any way. This a fantastic heater for industrial companies, or those in the cooking industry who need to manufacture a larger amount of food product.
  12. High heat without burning our product High heat without burning our product Great little insulated heater with thermostat controls for pinpoint temperature control for our presses when we need to heat our drums up quickly without scorching product.
  13. They work great for heating epoxy & honey They work great for heating epoxy & honey. I have clients in many different industries that use these blankets. They work great for heating epoxy, honey and other temperature sensitive products. Very pleased.
  14. Best Heater for Wrapping and Warming Barrels Best Heater for Wrapping and Warming Barrels. Powerblanket BH55PRO with adjustable thermostat controller really works well. Does circles around our old band heaters... and we don't have to use 3 of them to heat up the drum. Heats up much quicker and doesn't burn my product!
  15. A++++++++++++ A++++++++++++
  16. A great heater. I use it to make Vegetable Glycerin A great heater. I use it to make Vegetable Glycerin. I use it to make Vegetable Glycerin easier to pump, and it does the trick. Takes a day to heat fully, but keeps steady temperature. I would buy this again and have recommended it to friends.
  17. Works great for quicker defrost We use this to help defrost frozen 55 gallon drums. It's not instant, but it does help reduce the time.
  18. Awesome product.Fast delivery. "Definitely the quality is really good."
  19. Just great! "Great product!"
  20. Rugged and Durable "Powerblankets are a great way to heat precisely what you need to heat without worry of uneven, intermittent, overheating or inefficient power use. I find them to be job site tough, durable and field repairable with the Vinyl repair kit utilizing the HH-66 glue. They are heavy duty and can take a lot of abuse. The machine sewn stitching is very heavy duty. The belts, clasps and reinforcing are securely attached to the blankets. They can take a lot of use. The thing I notice the most is how even the heat is across the entire mat. Whatever you wrap or cover with it you can count on an even heat spread. If you add a temperature controller like the Beacon controllers with which Powerblankets has teamed up with, you can precisely dial in the temperature control . I like how you can measure the temperature at several points. Inside the blanket, the surface of the blanket or the temp of the product. Beacon even has an IOT connected controller than you can control and monitor remotely. These blankets are pretty easy to handle. They not only heat but also insulate so they have some thickness to them. However they are still relatively lightweight for their size. They are somewhat rigid and that makes them easier to handle. It is kind of like working with lightweight workout mats. Unlike some other materials they remain flexible in very cold environments. Even the cords remain flexible down to colder temperatures. Made in the USA. Yep. Designed, engineered and manufactured right here at home. ETL and UL/CAS listed. They have an average lifespan of constant use in around the 4-6 year timeframe. 1 Year Warranty. This weather resistant BH55RR-80 uses 400W / 800W nominal power with Rapid Ramp feature. 3.33A / 6.67A. It weighs around 11 lbs. It is preset with an internal thermostat to 120 F."
  21. Continues to Protect Our Company's Lifeblood I got this drum blanket in addition to another one I received from Powerblanket. I got the first one because I ran into an issue recently where one of the very expensive chemicals that we use at my small business recently became frozen solid and was ruined. Not only did this chemical cost a lot to replace but it also practically brought our production to a halt for almost a week before it could be replaced. We're located in the Carolinas so our winters don't usually get that cold and we haven't had any issues in the past. But after this time I couldn't allow it to happen again. I looked into simply storing it inside a temperature controlled facility, but it wasn't safe to do so and another alternative had to be found. We got this 55 gallon drum heater from Powerblanket shortly after our replacement chemicals arrived. It was easy to setup and place around the drum. It's also easy to remove it whenever we need to gain access. It has a temperature control that allows us to keep it warm but not too hot as it can be ruined that way as well. It's performed very well and even survived several weeks of frigid air that we had from this year's arctic blast from up north. It's given me piece of mind knowing that the lifeblood of our business is now well protected against the cold. It may seem a little expensive for a heating pad, but compared to the thousands of dollars that it cost our business without it, it's well worth the investment. This second insulated heating pad was purchased for another chemical that we can keep at warmer temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  22. This drum heating blanket works as advertised and so far so good This drum heating blanket works as advertised and so far so good. Keeps my mash at the set regulated temperature even in temperatures below 30 F.
  23. Responsabilidad Muy buen producto
  24. Best barrel blanket -26 is the coldest night in North Dakota so far and the power blanket has kept the DEF as close to a 100 degrees 24/7 for a month. We have 2 blankets to keep 2 drums ready at a time. they will bring up to temp a 55 gallon drum of DEF from a frozen solid block in 12 hours depending on wind chill.
  25. This is the most efficient barrel heater I've ever used for my moonshine This is the most efficient barrel heater I've ever used for my moonshine
  26. It's great! This is an item I previously had never heard of but HAD to have once I saw it. For a long time I have wanted a natural outdoor shower for our little camping area, complete with rainwater for soft skin. It's nothing elaborate at all but thanks to this Powerblanket, I'm in the process of getting it. It keeps the water at just the right temps and it doesn't take very long to heat. On the test run we set it up before we went to bed and it was ready to go when we woke up. I've used it twice now and had no problems at all so this product gets a full 5 star review. They are solid and sturdy and very very heavy. It would take some serious destruction to hut one of them. The price is rather high, but I think in the end you could use them enough to actually save money according to your needs so the product could help pay for itself and as sturdy as it is, I would say that it should last for years.
  27. Consistent temp, great materials, good directions The Powerblanket line has obviously been designed and made with quality and care in mind - the materials are nice, look like they will stand up to a lot of use, and even the directions have been written clearly. This particular model is top of the line - fairly big, wraps all the way around medium and large barrels, and has a fixed thermostat. I use these for keeping a consistent temp for naturally derived soaps, waxes, and dermatological products I make. This is a really expensive solution but I have noticed significantly less energy usage as I'm not heating things up, waiting for them to cool down, or wasting energy. I also am able to get a lot more done in a faster time frame. So if you need consistent heat over a large area, this feels like a very energy efficient solution. The temp seems to be incredibly consistent - super impressed. I particularly like that the directions appear not to have been translated from another language!
  28. Heavy Duty with Even and Precise Heating "Powerblankets are a great way to heat precisely what you need to heat without worry of uneven, intermittent, overheating or inefficient power use. Pick your temperature and your ready to go. If you need a more precise temperature control then add a controller. The 100 F version tested works great for Honey and other food products. There is of course the Bee version available too."

  30. Quick, even heating for molasses Great product, I use this to keep a barrel of thick molasses at the right viscosity to blend in our big mixer at the bakery (we make ginger snaps). It heats up quickly and evenly across the whole height of the drum. I like this one much better than those cheap band heaters because I can plug it in the night before we need the molasses, and by the time I come into work the next morning, it's at a good pourable consistency. Plus at only 100 degrees F, I know it won't burn the molasses if I leave it on unattended. Would definitely buy again.
  31. Good drum blanket heater for my 55 gallon drums Good drum blanket heater for my 55 gallon drums
  32. I would recommend to anyone This heater saved my bacon. Things got really cold last week, but our barrels stayed just the right temp and operation kept right on going. I would recommend to anyone.
  33. Great 55 gallon drum heaters Great 55 gallon drum heaters. Use this product at work to keep our barrel of DEF from freezing. Kinda pricey but for a quality product, it's completely worth every penny. Even on the coldest days in the storage trailer this wrap keeps our DEF "warm to the touch".
  34. Great product, Great value Great product, Great value. I have tried other belt versions and it all ends the same, poor heating which leads to manufacturing issues. With the Powerblanket our difficult raw materials are kept at the perfect temp which leads to a great blending.
  35. Very smooth transaction Very smooth transaction. A pleasure to do business with you. Thanks!
  36. This is perfect for my operation This is perfect for my operation. Especially this time of year when you pull in an ingredient and it's solid. We just put this on the night before and when we come in we have a liquid ready to use. Very easy to wrap and remove.
  37. Best Drum Heater Best Drum Heater. This 22lb drum heater is excellent. It has no thermostat but our chemicals require heating from 90 to 100 degrees F. So I put it around our drum, which is a little oversized (24" diameter) and it fits snugly and over the weekend maintianed the chemical temp at 99 deg. Works perfect, lightweight and easy to handle. The insulated blanket drum heater we were using weighed about 50 pounds and was hard to handle. This is a great blanket.

  39. Effective drum blanket "This blanket works well for so many applications! Aside from being great at heating a drum, it works great wrapped around my upright greenhouse to help keep the frost my setting and cracking the vinyl covering. I’ve also used it to surround my homebrew setup to keep the ambient temps up overnight so my yeast doesn’t get too cold. It even works great under a blanket to create a heated dog bed! This product works just like it says it will and has more secondary uses than I could’ve imagined!"
  40. I would buy again or recommend to a friend "This blanket works great keeps drums warm even in freezing temps."
  41. Honey on the money! We are at that weird time of year where it is sixty one day and FIVE the next, so I was really happy to receive this item for review as my friend prepped for an upcoming spring farmer's market and needed to make sure her honey was able to be packaged. The night it dropped down to five degrees is when she tried this out and BOY was she thrilled to see her sweet honey still ready to go the next morning! I know these are pricey and I'm not sure what else they are used for, but it is worth buying if you have THOUSANDS of dollars in merchandise that you can't even touch because it's frozen. You will find it very useful and I hope the price drops even more!
  42. Reliable temperature control "Work fantastic! This is my second one and I would buy again."
  43. This drum heater is a must have for the spray foam industry! This drum heater is a must have for the spray foam industry! After speaking with a Powerblanket rep, I was told they specifically designed this model for the spray foam industry to keep our spray foam at optimal temperatures of approximately 80 °F. It couldn't be any easier to use, just plug the 55 gallon drum heater into any standard outlet and the heater does the work. This product has saved our company a tremendous amount of time and money. Thank you!
  44. Easy temperature control Great for warming up product and maintaining even temperature.
  45. A Game Changer This will keep your barrels at a great temp and they are well constructed. Thanks a lot
  46. I am a professional spray foam installer I am a professional spray foam installer. My product needs to stay between 60-70 degrees at all times. Winter months used to be tricky until I got these. For the price of 1 of these at other places. I got 2 here. Same blanket and free shipping. Just don't leave them on for more than a few hours or you'll boil your foam.
  47. Using for Kombucha We have two of these to heat 80 Gallon Kombucha tanks through the winter. They are holding temp perfectly
  48. Great product! Did exactly what I needed it to! Great product! Did exactly what I needed it to!
  49. 5 Stars...Amazing product for slowly melting honey! Amazing product for slowly melting honey!
  50. Fantastic! Wish I had gotten one much sooner! I was so happy to receive this heated cover for my hot water heater. I am in New England and we have been in sub zero temperatures for a week, which is a very long time for our location. My hot water heater in the the garage which is not insulated and I was terrified that the heater would freeze. i received this Powerblanket and it was very easy to "install". You just wrap it around the heater, tighten with the velcro straps and plug in. It got warm right away and there has not been a problem. I wish I had ordered this years ago.
  51. Works well for my granulated honey. This drum heater really worked well on my 55 gallon drum of granulated honey. Just enough heat to help liquefy the honey in under 24 hours. The honey ends up warm not hot. Much better heating solution than the metal band heaters I've been using for years.
  52. These insulated drum heaters work great. We have used silicone heat straps for 20years ... These insulated drum heaters work great. We have used silicone heat straps for 20years (rubber and the pricey metal units) These use a fraction of the electricity and heat a drum far faster. And easily maintain. We have bought more after trying them out. We heat drums of epoxy resins.
  53. Worked great Worked great. This product is expensive, but when you need to have your hog's water to not freeze to works like a champ. The only problem is that the 6" pipe I have running from the drum to the nipple froze. So I just broke down and bought a 16 gal heated water bucket.
  54. 5 stars Five Stars. This drum heater works as it should.
  55. This drum heater does the job!!! It's great for keeping stuff warm. This drum heater does the job!!! It's great for keeping stuff warm.
  56. Does what I need it to do! Does what I need it to do! Worked well for purpose of heating a surfactant with a freeze point of 55F. Just plug it in and wait. Took about 1 hour on a cold morning to thaw enough product to pour, which is in line with my expectations.
  57. Very, Very Nice! Very, Very Nice! Not much to say other than this product is really cool. Well, actually, I guess I should say it's really warm! We use this Powerblanket with the Augason FarmsTM Emergency Water Storage Kit. It fits perfectly. Using the Powerblanket couldn't be more simple: unfold it, wrap it around the barrel, cinch up the straps, and plug it in. That's it. Water is kept warm enough so as not to freeze. We don't live in a place where the temperature really plunges, so I have no idea how low the temperature needs to go before the cold overwhelms the Powerblanket's ability to warm the water. 5 stars. Unreservedly.
  58. Works even through ice storms. Works even through ice storms. We have several barrels for collecting rain water. We used the water for my house plants, green house and for the chicken coop. I have plastic barrels which means they nearly freeze solid during the winter. So far we have experienced some severe ice storms but the Powerblanket has prevented the water from freezing. It really works, is well made and very sturdy. This is a great product.
  59. Life is a Little Easier. Life is a Little Easier. This is a perfect fit for both my blue plastic barrels and my steel drum. Easy to put it on. Just plug it in, set it and forget about it. Life is a little easier with my glue in a soft warm condition even in the winter months.
  60. Great for keeping my rain barrel melted during the winter. Great for keeping my rain barrel melted during the winter. I got this particularly to keep the water in my rain collecting barrel melted (or at least slushy-) during the midwest winter -- so I can water my plants/garden off of it, and have it available for other household uses. It fit snugly over the drum, and has been a godsend so far. It's made of rugged material, and seems like it will hold up in a variety of environments: I keep the barrel in an unheated but covered garage, and it reaches well below freezing during the winter. The pre-set thermostat keeps the temperature from getting above 125 deg Fahrenheit, which suits my needs perfectly. If there are any issues, I'll come back and update this review, but so far it's worked great.
  61. Excellent packing and fast shipping Excellent packing and fast shipping
  62. Perfect fit & works perfectly. Thanks! Perfect fit & works perfectly. Thanks!
  63. Kept my industrial drum from freezing. Kept my drum from freezing. A+++ thanks for the quick ship, it kept my 55 gallon drum contents from freezing this past Winter.
  64. Good product, as expected. Good product, as expected.

VISCOSITY REDUCTION BASICS

Viscosity is a complicated and sometimes confusing topic and understanding how to lower viscosity is a challenge during cold winter months. A fluid that is viscous will be thick, sticky, and semifluid in consistency. Increased friction and/or increasing temperature will change viscosity.

Summary Conclusions

1. The Powerblanket 800 watt drum heater is 180% more effective than the 1200 watt 4 inch silicone band heater (110° F vs. 61° F) in achieving maximum water temperature.
2. The Powerblanket drum heater is 25% more efficient in power usage (660 watts vs. 880 watts) than the 4 inch silicone band heater.
